Heavy Rain causes multiple water rescues

On Friday May 5th 2017 heavy rain fell across the area and caused multiple water rescues in the northern end of Frederick County.

 

At 1126hours Ambulance 309, Ambulance 308 (Thurmont Community Ambulance), Medic 30 ( Frederick County Advanced Life Support), Engine 183 (Graceham Volunteer Fire Company), Engine 102, Rescue Squad 10, Quint 11 ( Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company), ATRteam (Frederick County Advanced Technical Rescue Team), Boat 16, Boat 16-2, Dive Support 16 ( Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company), Boat Support 2 (Junior Fire Company, Frederick), EMS901 ( Frederick County Division of Fire Rescue Services EMS Supervisor), Safety901 ( Frederick County DFRS Safety Officer), Battalion 902 (Frederick County DFRS Battalion Chief) were dispatched for a water rescue of a stranded person in their vehicle in floodwater at the intersection of Hessong Bridge Rd and Layman Rd. Units arrived on scene to find a mini van in the middle of floodwater with the single occupant sitting on the window sill. ATR team members and boat team members walked out to the vehicle using caution and removed the occupant from the vehicle and brought them back to dry land and out of the floodwaters. The subject was not hurt and refused EMS care.

 

At 1238hours Ambulance 309, Ambulance 308 (Thurmont Community Ambulance), Medic 30 ( Frederick County Advanced Life Support), Engine 183 (Graceham Volunteer Fire Company), Engine 102, Rescue Squad 10, Engine 133 (Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Company) Tower 6 (Vigilant Hose Company), ATRteam (Frederick County Advanced Technical Rescue Team), Boat 16, Boat 16-2, Dive Support 16 ( Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company), Boat Support 2 (Junior Fire Company, Frederick), EMS901 ( Frederick County Division of Fire Rescue Services EMS Supervisor), Safety901 ( Frederick County DFRS Safety Officer), Battalion 902 (Frederick County DFRS Battalion Chief) were dispatched to Loys Station Park at 13506 Old Frederick Rd for a vehicle stranded in floodwaters. Units arrived to find a passenger car stranded in the vehicle with the single occupant still inside. ATR members and boat team members again walked out to the vehicle using caution and removed the occupant from the vehicle and brought them to dry land and out of the floodwater. The occupant of the vehicle was not hurt. The subject was turned over to EMS for care and later refused transport to the hospital.
