On Tuesday December 13, 2016 at approximately 2016 hours, Rescue Squad 10, Engine 102, Ambulance 309 (Thurmont Community Ambulance), Medic 30 ( Frederick County Advanced Life Support), and EMS901 (Frederick County DFRS EMS Supervisor) were dispatched for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment in the area of Camp Airy on Sabillasville Road. Ambulance 309 arrived on scene and confirmed one trapped with the vehicle partially in the creek. Rescue Squad 10 arrived moment after and the crew began to stabilize the vehicle as half the vehicle was hanging off the bank of Owens Creek. Engine 102 and Chief 10 arrived shortly after and Chief 10 established the Sabillasville Road Command. Once the crews had the vehicle stabilized they began to extricate the patient from the vehicle. While the patient was still being extricated, Trooper 3 (Maryland State Police Aviation Division) was requested to transport the patient to the hospital due to the injuries. Command then requested an additional rescue squad to the scene to help with a prolonged extrication and for more manpower. Rescue Squad 6 (Vigilant Hose Company, Emmitsburg) was dispatched and responded to the scene. Crews were however able to extricate the patient before Squad 6 arrived on scene. The crew from Squad 6 helped to carry the patient to the ambulance and then pack up. The patient was extricated 21 minutes after Rescue Squad 10 arrived on the scene. The patient was loaded into the ambulance and was transported to the nearby landing zone where Trooper 3 was waiting. The patient was then loaded into the helicopter and transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. Command was terminated and units returned to service.
